Vila Verde (the name means "green village" in Portuguese) is designed to emulate a small colonial village amid tranquil planted areas. Plazas located within the resort offer meeting points and leisure spaces, which are strategically placed along a pedestrian boulevard. Over 50 shops, several restaurants, cafes and bars are dotted along the boulevard helping to foster the village feel. The resort also features supermarkets, tennis courts, botanical gardens and no less than 17 swimming pools. From the entrance, a ring road helps to keep traffic well apart from the pedestrian areas. There are gyms and beauty salons, ample parking spaces, and even a petrol station on-site.The accommodation is divided into 13 gated communities, with apartment blocks around private open gardens with swimming pools. Dwellings are large and spacious and finished with modern, natural materials. Bedrooms have large sliding doors and wardrobes. Kitchens are fully equipped with refrigerators, ovens, hobs, extractors and washing machines, and boast high-quality granite worktops and wood-finished cabinets. The bedrooms, lounges, kitchens and bathrooms are floored with ceramic tiles. The two and three-bedroom town houses are in a development with its own country club and private swimming pool, boasting with balconies and terraces ideal for Cape Verde's climate. The villas, which are positioned around the clubhouse, afford maximum privacy and relaxation, with their own private gardens and swimming pools. They also feature rooftop terraces of 40 sq metres, and private swimming pools.Located on Sal Island, 10 minutes by car from the airport, just over a mile from the town centre of Santa Maria and less than five minutes' walk from the beach, Vila Verde is perfectly placed. Santa Maria is a town of true contrasts, with cobbled streets and dirt tracks, modern buildings and decayed ruins, with lots of character. It has some good bars and restaurants. In the evening, locals congregate to enjoy the seemingly random live music, which may or may not occur at one of the nearby bars! Music is very important in Cape Verdean culture, and well worth sampling if you get the chance.
This unique development is the only one on Sal that offers a complex of new-build houses. The area in front of the complex has a safe but rugged beach, with a sandy beach just a short distance away in Palmeira. There are 17 two-bedroom town houses in total. Residents have a communal pool and enjoy the use of private parking spaces. The first floors have two bedrooms with a bathroom and small veranda.Situated in the town of Palmeira, this is a less touristy than Santa Maria, but still within easy reach of all the interesting places to visit on Sal. The development overlooks the fishing harbour of the historical town of Palmeira. The international airport and the main economic centre of Espargos, the island's capital city, are only a 10-minute drive away. The Oasis at Fontona is within walking distance and Palmeira itself has potential as a boating haven with yachts moored off its beach.
