The Spanish island of Ibiza is a popular tourist destination, where the party seems never to end. Like most southern islands, and there are incredible golden beaches bathed in turquoise waters. But the charm of Ibiza lies in the sheer white cliffs rising along the coast and jutting into the sea, which probably gave its nickname – White Island (La isla Blanca). Known as a center of world famous names in electronic music as well as the starting point for music tours, Ibiza also offers opportunities for a peaceful family vacation. Bars and night clubs are open until 6:00 am. Ibiza is a magnet for all those for whom life begins with the fall of night. The most beautiful of the four Balearic Islands and the third largest among them, Ibiza, is situated in the Mediterranean, and belongs to Spain. Ibiza is located 80 km from Valencia and about 3 km from San Antonio, another resort popular with its nightlife. Just 7 km from the capital of the island bearing the same name you will find a small airport. The climate is temperate Mediterranean, which explains the relatively mild winters and cool summer – the temperature of the hottest months is just 30 degrees. Administrative Ibiza is divided into 5 parts – San Jose de la Talaia, Santa Eularia de Riu, San Antonio de Portmany, San Joant de Labritja and the capital Ibiza.
If you think that the only thing you can do in Ibiza is sunbathing and partying until dawn, you’re wrong. As an island with so much history which has witnessed the presence of so many peoples and cultures, every corner of Ibiza has something to show you. Our tour started from the old town of Ibiza, founded in 1554 and surrounded by massive walls of which now stand only small parts. Built by the Italian architect Calvi, they seem to be untouched by time and history and today is one of the two defenses in Europe, which have maintained their authentic design. Over the houses, that wind between the cobblestone streets, rises a magnificent cathedral, which offers breathtaking views of the island and the surrounding sea. Truly impressive sight for which it is worth visiting this place. Our excursion continues in the direction of the Port of Ibiza, where it rises the only Corsair obelisk in Europe, dating back to the times when the island was a subject of numerous pirate raids. In the port of the neighboring resort city, San Antonio, in the 90′s of last century, a monument was placed in the shape of an egg with the Carabel ‘Santa María’ in the middle. The monument, known as “The Egg”, was dedicated to Christopher Columbus and his belief that nothing is impossible.
After a hearty lunch on the beach we headed to the caves on the island, which keep the ancient ruins and evidence of prehistoric life. The Phoenician tomb, Necròpolis del Puig des Molins, in the center of the main city, also deserve our attention as well as the authentic white farms with thick walls. Ibiza’s lighthouses and windmills are a trademark of the island, so they will illuminate the road when you head to your next overnight adventure. Where? The most popular clubs are “Privilege” (the largest in the world), “Eden”, “Es Paradis”, “Amnesia”, “Pacha” “Space” and “DC 10″.
