Greece turns out profitable tourist destination due to political crisis in Middle East and Northern Africa
Greece is a country which may profit from tourism due to the political crisis in the Middle East and North Africa (Egypt and Tunis). This has been forecast by the British Thomas Cook Group – the largest tour operator in Europe. The company’s forecast makes it clear that countries from Southern Europe are the clear-cut winners in the competition for attracting more tourists bound to Egypt and Tunis. Greek hotel owners offer considerably lower prices. According to the British tour operator, similar measures have been taken up by their Spanish counterparts.
Cypriot government approves draft bill on fight against online betting
The Cypriot government has approved a draft bill on fight against online betting in Internet casinos. The bill declares online betting an illegal activity punishable by a fine ranging from 8,500 to 170,000 euro or a 5-year prison sentence. The government’s spokesman has described the bill as crucial because the current unclear legislation has made possible the boom of illegal online betting. It is believed that due to the lack of relevant legislation on online betting, over 650 online casinos have made billions in revenues.
23-year old Romanian, youngest grandmother in the world
23-year old Romanian Rifka Stanesku has become the youngest grandmother in the world. Rifka got married when she was only 11 years old to Yonel who was only 2 years her senior at that time. A year later she gave birth to their son Nicolae. Although Rifka advised her daughter Maria not to follow in her steps but to continue her education, Maria, nevertheless, got married when she was only 10 years old. At 11 she gave birth to her son Jon.
Belgrade municipal tow trucks absolve women of their fines for unlawful parking
On the occasion of 8th March – the International Women’s Day – the municipal tow trucks in Belgrade absolved women of their fines for unlawful parking. This way the city’s Parking Service traditionally marks the day of the women.
Macedonian women think household duties restrict their freedom
Over 60 per cent of the women in Macedonia think that their household duties restrict their freedom, a survey made in Skopje reveals. The survey entitled “Women and men in Macedonia” and ordered by the EC has also shown that 91 per cent of the women want to work at any cost and conditions while only 9 per cent have said they want to remain housewives. Data released by Macedonia’s state statistics institute shows that the working women in Macedonia in 2009 were 29,4 per cent while the working men were 47,5 per cent.
Turkish airlines order 13 Airbus airplanes
Turkish Airlines has ordered 10 Airbus A321’s and 3 Airbus A330-200 F’s to the tune of $ 1.6 bln. In 2009 and 2010, Turkish Airlines ordered altogether 27 Airbus airplanes. Currently, the air fleet of the company consists of 156 airplanes. This number is expected to reach 196 by 2015. In the last two years, the company increased the number of its passengers by 25 per cent or nearly 30 mln people.
