Boyko Borissov, PM
I would like the conflict in Africa to be solved and the oil supplies to be back to regularity. At the moment the Central European Bank has set $118 per barrel. I understand the wish of opposition and of the ill-wishers and of their populism – this is the exact word – but let them think a while how could be lowered the excise on fuels without the approval of the European Commission. Let one of their experts come out and say he could do this when there is a sanction. We also regret that there is such a problem. We are exerting all efforts, we are doing everything possible.
I cannot influence the global processes. I wish I could but I cannot, even I. Unfortunately no one can and prices keep on growing. Both the population and the state lose from this tendency because consumption decreases. And this automatically leads to lower taxes flowing into the fisc. We all are on the losing side. In such a case, what do people protest against? Against Gaddafi? I would protest against him too! Oil prices problems are facts. And we seek solutions to these on summits. No one can manage on their own. And if someone believes they can find a solution on their own, there are elections coming, they can try these out. We act according to what we have promised but oil prices in the world are beyond our control.
